Moments from River Patrol on the Silver River (in Silver Springs Florida, next to Ocala) where I am one of many CSO volunteers. This amazing, spring-fed river is now threatened more than during any other time during since it's rebirth more than 12,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. Let's all work hard to cherish and protect it for our grandchildren!

Florida "Chameleons"
These ubiquitous chameleons are actually anole lizards and never far off. This green variety can morph to grey or brown depending upon where it's hanging out. Fiercely hunted by cats, snakes, birds (especially Carolina Wrens!) and our dog, they are wary and quick to disappear, often leaving their wriggling tails behind as a sop to the nearly successful predator. They grow another one within a few weeks...
